Year 4

Welcome Elephants, Lions and Tigers

Hello Year 4,

We hope that you had a wonderful Spring Term break and a chance to rest and spend lots of time with family. Hopefully, your break was just as exciting as the adults at school, but more importantly; are you as eager as the teachers to get back into the classroom? We have so much planned during these last several weeks together!

In English, we will be reading ‘Street Child’ by Berlie Doherty, and we will be exposing the children to a wide range of high-quality texts.

In Maths, during this term, you will be covering a wide range of topics where we will consolidate your knowledge and understanding of the following key areas:

  • Number and Place Value
  • Addition and Subtraction
  • Multiplication and Division
  • Fractions
  • Measurement
  • Geometry and Properties of Shape

You will have opportunities to apply these skills within your maths learning by solving real-life problems and puzzles in order to understand how maths forms a huge part of everyday life.

It would be really helpful if you continued to practise your maths and reading in addition to completing your weekly homework - please see the ‘useful links’ tab on the ‘Year Group Pages’ home page for easy access to the regular websites we use. Year 4 pupils are expected to complete the following homework each week:

  • Read daily for at least 15 minutes and have their planners signed. This includes at the weekend.
  • Learn spellings that will be given on a Monday and tested on a Friday (these are listed below on this page).
  • Complete their assigned weekly maths CGP homework.
  • Complete their assigned weekly spelling, punctuation and grammar CGP homework.
  • Regular use of Times Table Rockstars.

Don’t forget to read and discuss the vocabulary and knowledge mats with your family either to deepen your understanding of what you are learning this term!

Finally, as we learn and make progress for our future, remember that we cannot replace time. Let’s enjoy each lesson to its full potential and make the most of the present. We have worked so hard since the beginning of the year; we can do the same this term, in the lead up to the summer holidays.

We are very much looking forward to ending this year on a positive note.

Best wishes,

Miss Shaw, Mrs Perez, Mrs Hampton and Mr Hopkins
